Title: Walk for Life Teacher:Ruthy Alon PLACE: Scottish Rite Center - Oakland, CA DESCRIPTION: Learn to improve the basic function of a dynamic, lively, and healthy walk. This 5- day workshop of Walk for Life® will include walking in nature with the use of Walking Poles, as well as indoor Movement Laboratory of simple, yet sophisticated strategies to improve the quality of walking. The program's model is derived from evolutionary patterns of locomotion which have proven their efficiency throughout millions of years of survival. The Indoor Movement Laboratory Elements: Propulsion: Using the alternating shift of weight from one leg to the other in walking, undulating a rhythmical multi- dimensional wave for generating the propulsion of walking. Impact: Accentuating the outsmarting of gravity in auto-mobilization by striking the foot onto Alignment: Training the skeleton to incessantly re-create its alignment into a streamlined trajectory for the transmission of the two way force, the body mass bearing down, as well as the springy reaction up, streaming from end to end, without loss, deviation, or compression, in a domino-effect quality. Walking with Poles: Walking Poles are used not only as support for equilibrium, but also to revive the arms primal function of the quadrupeds' front legs. Using the poles for walking is producing a counter force, which thrusts the shoulder blade backward to the spine, restoring vital flexibility the most stiff and non negotiable area of the upper back. The poles also empower the ballistic factor of propulsion. Through being an extension of the arms, they reach to interact with the ground, generating an impact of a higher mobilization potency, than what a human's bi- pedal leg can produce. Required equipment: Participants are asked to bring a mat, a set of Walking Poles and a piece of fabric for use as a wrap. FABRIC: The fabric wrap is 7 meters (7yds. 21") 45" wide cotton fabric, purchased at JoAnn Fabrics. It is called "Country Classic" which is found in the quilters section or at an equivalent store.
